The Westwood Patriot Girls made the road trip down Co. Rd. 480 & 553 to take on the Gwinn Model Towners in Girls Basketball action Thursday Night. Gwinn and Westwood traded shots and moved the ball to keep the action moving through the 1st quarter, but Gwinn had more shots drop to take a 10-3 lead over Westwood with 2:20 left in the 1st. But Westwood fought back with a quick bucket and a long 3-pointer to get to within two with just over a minute, then a steal and a short shot underneath tied it up at 10-10 with a minute left to play, but a another quick Modeltowner rebound and bucket gave Gwinn the lead 12-10 after the first quarter.
Things opened up in the 2nd as Gwinn and Westwood traded scores, then Gwinn hit a quick shot then and long 3-pointer to take a 19-12 lead early in the 2nd. Gwinn dominated the boards on both ends, to take a 21-15 lead midway through the quarter. Gwinn used quick hands to force Patriot turnovers. But a pair of 3-pointers by Westwood with about 2 minutes in the half put The Patriots within six, then Both teams fired the ball and crunched the boarded for the last 90 seconds, with Gwinn up by four, 29-25 going into the locker room.
