Marquette, MI – September 13, 2021 – The Marquette boys soccer team hosted the Houghton Gremlins on Saturday at the Kaufman Sports Complex. The Redmen came out firing, scoring 3 goals in a 5-minute span early in the first half. Isaac Johnson got the scoring started off an Ezra Pickard corner kick. John Weber then scored from a Zane Phillips free-kick. Just 10 seconds later Max Dawson intercepted the ensuing kickoff and scored an unassisted goal for a 3-0 halftime lead. In the second half, Dawson scored his second goal off a Hayden Byma assist. Ethan Sandstrom then made it 5-0 from a Dawson assist. Houghton would cut the lead to 5-1 with a penalty kick before Pickard scored two more goals with assists from Johnson and Byma for a 7-1 win. Harrison Anthos stopped 3 shots in the net.
“It was really good effort today and we executed the game plan flawlessly. Offensively we had five different guys score and five guys with assists which is better than we expected” – Coach Dan Salmon. Marquette is idle until Saturday when they travel to Minocqua Wisconsin for the Lakeland Union invite tournament. Marquette is 12-0 on the season.
